Augmentative & Alternative Communication
The Brandon Speech & Language Clinic works with many people who require augmentative and/or alternative forms of communication. A client may have motor speech disorders, cognitive disabilities, weaknesses in fine and gross motor skills and may have difficulty communicating orally or in written form. In other words, they don’t communicate using spoken language.
In these situations, it is extremely important to find other ways to help them communicate so that the person is able to indicate their wants and needs to lead a fulfilling life.
At the Brandon Speech & Language Clinic, we will work with clients to find an augmentative and alternative means of communication that is appropriate to the individual. They may sign/gesture, use picture symbols, or use technology that will allow them to communicate effectively.
